Fresh single track!!

Ride 8. Two short for the month of January, not to shabby considering the weather.

Location: Sumas Mountain.

Trails: Xtra Sauce, Emma Peel, Choose your own Adventure, Police Line.

Great Day out there today, cool and clear with the trails dry and frozen.

Nice view of Golden Ears, it's usually buried in clouds.

Like I said, cold up there today.

The entrance to Xtra Sauce. That last little bit of rain apparently fell as snow. The white stuff wasn't there a couple days ago. I started riding a little late in the day and cut into the trees early missing out on Holiday Sauce.

Fresh bench cut single track. Hats off to Gary and Kerry for building another choice piece of trail. People have apparently been riding it in real shitty conditions. Their frozen tire tracks are a testament to that.

Time Killered!!

Ride 6.

Sumas Mountain

Trails: Time Killer, Time Out.

The plan was to climb Sumas and ride Knob Gobbler and the XC side of the mountain. A few things worked with me and a few things against. To start out it was chilly at the bottom. I was quickly second guessing leaving my jacket back at the truck, but as it turns out out there was a nifty little temperature inversion today. By the time I hit the mid gate it was quite warm, very nice.

That being said I hit snow at the second gate. About 4 inches of frozen/slushy mess which made pedaling near impossible. There was also snow in the trees here so I spun around and decided it was going to be a Time Killer day. I must have been the first person to ride TK since the bottom gate has been locked. Not a single tire print to be found.

Anyway onto a couple pictures.

Todays weather conditions:

A look up Freeway Bob.

South Surrey Bike Park, ride 3

When everything is buried in snow where else do you go?

I did one lap of the Junkyard Dog XC course and then made up my own route for the second lap. Apparently the new pump track style trail is a double black....I would call it a double green, maybe a 3/4 blue.

PICTURES!!!!

A little bit of blow down and a couple puddles. Nothing compaired to the stuff out east.

Greasy wood work. This stuff WILL kill you.

And finally the pump track style trail, Smell The Helmet. Sorry for the crappy pics. I took the P&S due to the rain and was one handing, no flash photos.

The King of Burnaby Mountain.

Ride 2. January 10, 2011

Work and weather haven't been co-operating this month. It seems the only days I have off are the ugly ones.

While chatting with Morgan about what to ride on Burnaby Mtn, he suggested that I do some bus loop shuttles. I politely declined saying that I haven't been riding enough lately to justify that. Morgan then put me in the running for the King of Burnaby Mountain, what a nice guy.

I had only ridden BM one time previous last year and rode up from North Rd, this time I thought I'd try parking on Gaglardi Way and pedal up to the Water Tank Service Rd,  a much faster way to the top if you ask me. Morgan then suggested I do a counter-clockwise run of Mel's, as he says it flows better that way. He was right. I had remembered Mel's being a slog that I didn't like when I did it from the other direction. Not sure on my time constraints, I opted not to pedal up Gear Jammer and do a second lap of Mel's, turns out this decision put me at work about an hour and half early. From there I rode down Dead Moped and North Rd Trail. These last two trails are quite sedate and skirt the edge of boring. Trails were in great shape though as everything was frozen solid.

I'm not sure how many times I'll ride BM, but since it's close to work and the local hills are buried in snow, it might be a couple more times this winter yet.

On with the pictures. I took two photo's of my "XC" bike. One in climbing mode, one in descending mode.

This is what the trails looked like, clear and frozen.

 Looking towards Mt. Seymour.

First ride of 2011!!!

2010's ride goal was 120 trail rides. I fell a little short of my mark with 104 rides. Looking back I went a little slack in the spring as well as the heat wave we had in August. With a little work I should be able to power through. Anyway onto todays ride.

Trails: Ambidexcross, Lazy Boy, Tools of the Trade, Buttafuoco, Hidden Valley Connector, Flintstones, Spawn of Boulderdash, Autobahn

Nice sunny day, -3 outside. I headed up to Ledgeview to find everything bone dry and frozen....perfect.

What a wicked nice day.

A bike and an orange

Everything was frozen solid. There was a little mud on the last 30m's of Autobahn where the sun was working  its magic.
